Right off the bat, let me just say Michael Richter is a bro. One of the most down to earth, creative people you’ll come across. He was the first musical guest we had on for The Hey BigHead Show and obviously he’s going to be the first local we showcase here on our Local Spotlight series.
Las Vegas alt-singer/songwriter Michael Richter crafts raw, confessional storytelling matched by explosive live performances—an authenticity impossible to fake. His journey into music was deeply influenced by tragedy, as he turned to songwriting following the murder of his mother in 2014. “She instilled music into me, and now she’s gone, I gotta do it.” he shared. His heartfelt track, “2014,” poignantly captures this devastating loss, offering listeners a candid look at his emotional landscape.
Music is in family history
Music runs deeply in Richter’s family; his grandfather played guitar for outlaw country legend Waylon Jennings, a legacy proudly honored by Richter. This musical heritage, combined with personal heartache, has shaped his powerful songwriting and dynamic stage presence.

Richter’s debut album, “Live at 11th Street,” recorded in an intimate acoustic setting at Downtown Las Vegas’s 11th Street Records, is a raw showcase of over thirteen soul-bearing songs. His magnetic presence and undeniable talent have drawn a dedicated fanbase, evident from packed performances including opening for acclaimed artists Jason Mraz and Dean Lewis at Mix 94.1’s Spring Fling at The Theater at Virgin Hotels, and headlining the Boulder City Block Party.
Despite his success, Richter remains down-to-earth, notably performing a standout set at “The Joint,” a venue where he once watched his favorite band, Imagine Dragons. That performance earned him a standing ovation, underscoring his growing impact in the local music scene.
