JC Fernandez on Getting Fired From Mix 94.1

Local tv/radio legend, JC Fernandez stopped by the BigHead Studios and shared his story about his time working at Mix 94.1.

After nearly three decades on the air, longtime Las Vegas radio personality JC Fernandez was let go from Mix 94.1 in December 2024.

He says he saw the signs coming. Still, when the call came, it hit hard. “It wasn’t my decision,” JC said. “They told me ratings and revenue were down, and the company was moving in a different direction. That’s showbiz.”

He’d been part of Mercedes in the Morning since the late ’90s, starting as a promotions assistant before becoming producer, third mic, and eventually Mercedes’ co-host. For 27 years, JC helped define what Vegas mornings sounded like.

When the station confirmed his departure, JC stayed quiet and professional. No drama. No statement war. “Life happens for you, not to you,” he said. Within weeks, Channel 8 offered him a full-time TV role. A quick comeback that proved he’s still one of Vegas media’s most versatile voices.

Listeners flooded his socials with support. Some even thought he’d passed away. “No,” he joked. “I just got fired.”
